What was claimed

A man from the Hindu community named Biplob Kumar was brutally attacked in Kaliganj, Jhenaidah, for refusing to pay Jizya (a historical tax levied on non-Muslims under certain Islamic states), and a local Jamaat leader led the assault.

Our findings

Available evidence shows that the attack stemmed from an extortion dispute.

Neither the victim nor any credible report stated that the assault was related to Jizya, religious identity, or the involvement of a Jamaat leader.

In fact, two local Muslim men, Bhashan and Osman, came to his aid and rescued him during the incident.
